Disaster training course set at Franklin College

Johnson County residents can attend a free 10-week training class to learn how to respond to local disasters.

The course will be Thursdays from June 1 to Aug. 3 and will certify residents for the Community Emergency Response Team. The team is being sponsored by Johnson County Community Organizations Active in Disasters.

Through training, residents can manage utilities and put out small fires, provide basic medical aid or other immediate assistance to victims in their area, search for and rescue victims safely, organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective and collect disaster intelligence to assist professional responders.

Training sessions will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the Franklin College campus.

Space is limited.
