Robert E. Dickey

Robert E. Dickey of New Market, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Ben Hur Health. He was 84.

Mr. Dickey served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was stationed in Sasebo, Japan, as part of the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954 and then was in San Diego.

He worked at R.R. Donnelley, starting in 1951 and retiring in 1996.

He was a member of the American Legion, where he was past commander and the 40 & 8, where he was past chef de gare.

He was a 1951 graduate of Darlington High School.

Born March 28, 1933, in Yountsville, he was the son of Paul S. Dickey and Mamie Houston Dickey.

He married Barbara Robbins on June 27, 1958, in Darlington. She survives.

His surviving family includes his wife, Barbara Dickey of Crawfordsville; son, Steve (Maggie) Dickey of Whiteland; two daughters, Sandra (Sam) Simmons of Waynetown and Sharon (JR) Campbell of Summerville, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Andrea, James, Madison and Patrick; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Tricia; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; and two brothers, Floyd and Paul Rhea Dickey.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
