Grizzly Cubs earn Mid-State title

The Franklin Grizzly Cubs captured the Mid-State Conference boys golf tournament at Foxcliff Country Club Monday with a team score of 154. The tournament was shortened to nine holes after being rained out Saturday.

Franklin’s Javan Johnson and Matt Jordan each shot 37 to lead the Grizzly Cubs. Greenwood (171) was third and Whiteland (182) fifth.

Grizzlies honored by HCAC

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced this year’s Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC teams for the spring season, and 18 Franklin College athletes were among those named.

Honorees are all varsity athletes with a grade-point average of at least 3.5.

The Grizzlies honored Monday included Peter Duncan, Drew Naumovich and Nathan Stonebraker (baseball); Jenna Gregory, Bailey Lindamood, Megan Lalioff, Lauren Huebler and Danielle Speas (softball); John Knue (men’s golf); Daniel Hicks and Kyle Sauley (men’s tennis); Rachel Bowden, Bret Roberts and Kelsey Bowling (women’s track and field); Richard Conway (men’s track and field); and Alexa Ingram, Abigayle Stayer and Jessica Silva (women’s lacrosse).

Also among those named was Whiteland graduate Branton Sanders, a sophomore baseball player at Anderson University. Sanders was also a second-team All-HCAC selection at first base.
