Austin Lee Speece

GREENWOOD

Austin Lee Speece, 25, of Greenwood, passed away in the early morning hours Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Community Hospital South.

Austin was born Aug. 17, 1991, in Indianapolis, to Robert Lee Speece and Cynthia Ruble Webster.

He was a 2010 graduate of Center Grove High School, where he participated in the Greenwood Fire Department cadet program. Austin went on to dedicate the next several years to Greenwood Fire Department as a firefighter and a member of the GFD Honor Guard.

In his free time away from the department, Austin was an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Indians and the Indianapolis Fuel.

He also enjoyed spending time with his faithful four-legged companions, Tiller, Duncan and Marshal. He truly loved his profession and believed wholeheartedly in the GFD cadet program — so much so, he served as a cadet adviser mentoring young cadets.

To say that he will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the community of Greenwood would be an understatement.

Survivors include his parents, Robert Lee Speece of Noblesville and Cynthia Dawn Ruble Webster and her husband, Randy, of Sullivan; maternal grandparents, Bob and Joyce Ruble of Florence, Kentucky; two brothers, Brandon Speece of Indianapolis and Chad Speece of Sullivan; two stepbrothers, Jared Webster and Trevor Webster, both of Sullivan; two stepsisters, Miranda Webster of Terre Haute and Ashlee Pinkston, and her husband Clint, of Sullivan; longtime girlfriend, Annie Hassee of Greenwood; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Austin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary Lou Speece, and maternal great-grandmother, Hazel Ruble.

A public visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood. The Rev. Robert Anderson, chaplain for the Greenwood Fire Department, will officiate the ceremony. Interment will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery. GFD Honor Guard will render full honors at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made in Austin Lee Speece’s name to the Greenwood Fire Department Cadet Program, 155 E. Main St., Greenwood, IN 46143.
