A Johnson County man was scammed out of $3,500 when he tried to purchase a pickup truck and trailer online.
The man found a 2004 Ford pickup and travel trailer for sale on a website for $2,500 plus $1,000 for shipping. He was told to make the purchase with eBay gift cards. He purchased the cards and sent photographs of the card numbers to the seller, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.
When the man didn’t receive the truck or trailer, he became suspicious and did some further research. He found the same advertisement for the truck online with the same photo, but listed under different sellers in several locations across the country, the report said.
