Blaze causes damage to home: No one injured in unoccupied house

No one was injured in a fire that caused extensive damage to a Greenwood home on Sunday evening.

The Greenwood Fire Department received several 911 calls from neighbors reporting flames going through the roof of a home on the 200 block of Westridge Boulevard about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, spokesperson Chad Tatman said.

The home is in the the Hickory Wood neighborhood, which is north of Main Street in between State Road 135 and U.S. 31.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, and the house was believed to be unoccupied, Tatman said.

Greenwood and White River Township firefighters battled the blaze, which took about two hours to extinguish, he said.

Tatman didn’t know if the department had been able to contact the property owner yet, but said that they were working to do so.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
