Girls tennis

Trojans claim first MIC crown since 2007

Center Grove won the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference tournament for the first time since 2007, edging state No. 1 Carmel for the title on Saturday.

Maddie Weeks took first place in the No. 3 singles bracket, and the Trojans also swept the doubles championships, with Isabella Schoolcraft and Cassidy Hardin winning at No. 1 and Carleigh Hardin and Ellie Strube claiming victory at No. 2.

Center Grove, ranked third in Indiana, sealed the deal with 2-1 efforts from Katelyn Gray at No. 1 singles and Emily Hoy at No. 2 singles.

Rebels sweep at Franklin tourney

Three straight-set victories from Emma Hess at No. 1 singles helped Roncalli win three straight matches at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.

The Rebels (11-2) defeated Batesville, 4-1, and added 3-2 wins against New Palestine and the host Grizzly Cubs.

Baseball

Warriors cruise on road double-header

Whiteland dominated a pair of road contests Saturday, easily defeating North Montgomery and Class 3A No. 2 Crawfordsville.

Iyan Pelfree went 4 for 4 with four runs batted in to lead the way in a 15-2 rout of the Chargers, while Luke Helton added three hits and a pair of RBIs.

Helton went the distance on the mound in a 7-0 shutout of the Athenians, striking out five while scattering five hits. Pelfree and Jake Holzhausen each drove in a pair of runs for the Warriors (12-7).

Track & field

GCA boys, girls compete at PAAC meet

Greenwood Christian’s boys and girls took part in the Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference on Saturday.

The Cougar girls finished in sixth, led by Anna Simons and Anna Subris, who each had a pair of top-five finishes.
