Trojans get Warriors in sectional

The Center Grove and Whiteland baseball teams will get their rubber match, and they won’t have to wait long to play it.

On Friday evening, the IHSAA announced the sectional pairings for the state tournament starting later this month, and the Trojans and Warriors drew each other in the opening game of the Class 4A Franklin Central.

Whiteland took the first meeting between the teams, winning the championship game of the Johnson County Tournament on April 8.

The Trojans responded with a 5-2 win on the Warriors’ home field 16 days later.

Also on the top half of that sectional draw are the host Grizzly Cubs, who will play Franklin Central in a first-round matchup.

Greenwood drew a first-round bye and will play against Martinsville in a semifinal game. Those two Mid-State Conference rivals split a pair of one-run games earlier this season.

Indian Creek opens up play in the Class 3A Danville Sectional with a first-round game against Greencastle. Should the defending sectional champion Braves advance, they’ll face either Indianapolis Washington or Danville in semifinal action. Indianapolis Northwest and Beech Grove comprise the bottom half of the draw.

In the Class A Morristown Sectional, Greenwood Christian drew Indianapolis Arlington for its first-round matchup on the top half of the bracket. On the bottom side, Edinburgh received a first-round bye and will take on the host Yellow Jackets.

Defending Class 4A state champion Roncalli is hosting a sectional and will match up with Perry Meridian in a semifinal showdown.
