GREENWOOD
Evelyn Jane Kocher, 83, Greenwood, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, surrounded by her family at Franciscan St. Francis Health.
She was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Indianapolis to the late Irvin and Lena Baumer. She was a 1951 graduate of Manual High School, where she met the love of her life James and had 65 wonderful years.
Evelyn attended IU School of Nursing and taught preschool for many years at Friedens United Church of Christ.
An award winning quilter, this was a hobby she enjoyed for over 40 years. Her active memberships included the Indiana State Quilters Guild, Southside Quilters Guild, the American Quilters Society and the Hill Valley Quilters and Travel Society.
She attended Providence Christian Church in Bargersville.
An avid reader, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, her family and friends, which included trip to all the United States and Europe. Evelyn was fond of her flower gardens and passed time with crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her devoted husband, James R. Kocher; three children, Karyl Whitaker, Karl Kocher and Linda Kocher.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Baumer.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135 and also from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. The funeral service will be there at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Quilters Society, The Salvation Army, Providence Christian Church or American Cancer Society.
