Betty E. Fetz

MUNCIE

Betty E. Fetz, 95, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at Westminster Village.

Betty was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Hope, the daughter of Clinton and Lucia (Stewart) Essex. She graduated from Hope High School in 1940, and graduated from Indiana University, cum laude in December 1943. While she was working at Indiana University, she met her husband, Jack Fetz, whom she married in Bloomington on June 12, 1947. Jack passed away June 9, 2015. Betty received her master’s degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology Library School in Pittsburgh.

She taught English at Brownstown High School and was a librarian at Indiana University. She moved to Muncie from Elwood in 1966, and was on the faculty at Bracken Library at Ball State University for seventeen years, retiring in 1982.

Betty loved to read, and enjoyed gardening, crafts, music and drama. She also enjoyed traveling and loved playing bridge with several different bridge clubs.

She was a long-time member of High Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Naomi Circle, AAUW, Eastern Star in Hope, and recently was the librarian at Westminster Village.

She is survived by three children, Kathleen A. Streit, Franklin, BJ Fetz, Franklin, and Richard A. Fetz (wife, Gail), Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Jason Streit (wife, Joni), Jennifer Mulzer (husband, Jonathan), Steven Fetz, and Daniel Fetz (wife, Mary); four great grandchildren, Colston Streit, Carlie Streit, Owen Mulzer, and Oliver Mulzer.

Mrs. Fetz was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Dean S. Glick, and a son-in-law, Dennis Streit.

A a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the High Street United Methodist Church Chapel in Muncie, with Pastor Charlotte Overmyer officiating. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery in Hope at a later date. Friends and family may call at High Street United Methodist Church Chapel, from 1 p.m. until service time.
