Gorgeous gardens: Get ideas, learn about bees at 13th annual celebration

Get ideas for your garden and learn all about pollination and more great tips and tricks at this year’s Garden Celebration at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.

The event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Scott Hall at the fairgrounds.

The 13th annual Johnson County Garden Club and Purdue Master Gardeners event will include more than 40 flower, plant and garden-art vendors.

Educational seminars include “What’s the Buzz about Honeybees?” at 9:30 a.m. by Roger Graham. At 11 a.m. Christena Taylor of Eco Logic, LLC of Bloomington will present “Native Plants for a Pollinator Paradise.” Eco Logic specializes in natural area assessment, ecological restoration, GIS mapping and stormwater management.

New for 2017 is Kids’ Corner, facilitated by Graham in Scott Hall’s northeast corner where families can visit from 1 to 3 p.m. to learn about bees, work puzzles, take photos and receive free planting kits.

Graham’s credentials include serving as past president of the Indiana State Beekeepers Association, American Beekeeper Federation membership and certification from the American Apitherapy Society, a non-profit organization promoting the use of honeybee products in daily health. Graham and his wife also own Graham Bee Works in Morgantown.

Seed packets and tree saplings will be given away while supplies last. Garden Café will sell breakfast and lunch items prepared by Ron Kelsay Catering. The show’s entrance fee is $2. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
