Emalou B. Garten, 96, of Greenwood, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017.
Emalou was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Lawrence County, to the late Juanita (Wilfong) and Carl Burton.
She worked for Eli Lilly and Co. for 20 years.
Emalou attended Herron School of Art at Indiana University and was a very creative artist. She loved quilting and animals, and was an avid gardener.Â
Emalou was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Garten.
She is survived by two sons, James (Lajauna) Garten and Burton (Susan) Garten; two daughters, Melinda (Keith) Smedema and Juanita (Brian) Garten Eacret; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association.
There will be a private funeral service.
