Larry R. Darland, 66, of Indianapolis, passed on to Heaven on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.

He was born to the late Gale and Ruth Darland and was a 1969 graduate of Manual High School. Larry became an IMPD police officer in 1973 and retired a decorated IMPD officer in 2007.  Following retirement, Larry spent his last 10 years as a reserve IMPD officer. His greatest passions were his God, his family and his country.

His funeral wish is for family and friends to say goodbye, honor America and the flag, and think of him when “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful” are heard. Larry adored his family and was selfless in his service to them. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, always pulling pranks, telling jokes, and his tender heart, especially toward his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Candy (Taylor) Darland; children, Michael Darland, Shaelyn Lorentz (Larry LaRoux), Sember Hahn (Andy) and Shauna Hocket (Jeff); grandchildren, Palmer, Porter and Prestin Hahn; his two siblings, Gary Darland (Lynne) and Carolyn Crump (Chet); and a host friends and colleagues from the IMPD.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life, wishes and career as a public servant of Larry R. Darland from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., Indianapolis. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Garfield Park Community Church, 743 E. Pleasant Run Parkway, S. Drive, Indianapolis. Additional calling will be from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
