Under construction: INDOT to begin I-65 work as well

Driving north and south in Johnson County will get even more difficult for drivers as road repairs will begin on a third key route next week.

This time, crews will show up on Interstate 65.

Repairs on sections of State Road 135 and U.S. 31 in Johnson County began earlier this month. Those projects will be joined by resurfacing on Interstate 65 along with repairs to exit and entrance ramps, an Indiana Department of Transportation news release said.

The work is the conclusion of an $84 million construction project to add lanes on I-65 between Greenwood and Franklin that began in 2015, the release said.

Exit and entrance ramps to I-65 at Main Street in Greenwood and Whiteland Road will be closed for repairs and resurfacing beginning Monday, with work on the two ramps at southbound I-65 and Main Street.

Some ramps will be closed during the day. For others, work will only take place overnight. Repairs are set to be complete by May 6, the release said.

Following the ramp repairs, crews will add another layer of pavement to an 11-mile stretch of Interstate 65 from Main Street in Greenwood to about a mile south of State Road 44 in Franklin. Drivers should expect lane closures starting May 7 through June, INDOT spokesperson Harry Maginity said.

Final paving wasn’t able to be completed at the end of 2016 as the work required warmer temperatures, he said.

Exit and entrance ramps on I-65 at State Road 44 in Franklin will be closed for work and resurfacing in early June, the release said.
