Hospital offering free diabetes info sessions

Johnson Memorial Health will provide free information sessions on diabetes.

The programs will start at 1 p.m. April 20, June 22 and Sept. 28, at the Franklin library, 401 State St.

Topics covered will include an overall definition of diabetes and pre-diabetes, symptoms and information about managing the condition.

The education series is free and open to the public, and is presented by Johnson Memorial Diabetes Care Center in partnership with the Johnson County Public Library Health and Wellness program series.

Care directives focus of Franciscan Health event

Franciscan Health Indianapolis is hosting upcoming events to educate the public about the importance of having advance health care directives, which are pre-prepared documents that determine medical treatment and help a patient’s family and doctor understand wishes about their care.

The locations and dates are the following:

8 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 19, Franciscan Health Indianapolis, 8111 S. Emerson Ave., Terrace Café Alcove: informational booth with representatives available to help with advance directives or answer questions. Information, giveaways and door prizes.

9-11 a.m., April 20, Greenwood Park Mall, 1251 N. U.S. 31, Rejuvenation Station (in front of Sears); informational booth, free blood pressure checks, giveaways and door prizes. Healthcare representatives will be available to help fill out or answer questions about advance directives. Also, visit with a therapy dog and learn about the benefits of the Pet Therapy program at Franciscan Health.

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 29, Community Health Care Discussion Day, Franciscan Senior Health & Wellness – PACE, 8325 E. Southport Road, Indianapolis. Informational discussions will be held about healthcare considerations, common mistakes, advance directives and other topics. This is an open forum for questions. Healthcare representatives will be available to help with advance directives or answer questions. Information, giveaways and door prizes will be provided to visitors.
