Edinburgh golfers fall to Hauser

HOPE

With Edinburgh having a lot of youth and new golfers playing varsity for the first time this year, coach Doug Weddle just has the team taking things one step at a time.

“Losing a lot to graduation and having a lot of new players, we are making improvements this year, and our goal this year is to get better with every match,” Weddle said Monday after the Lancers fell to Mid-Hoosier Conference foe Hauser 188-222 at Clifty Creek Golf Course near Hope.

Bladen Hancock shot a 48 to lead the Lancers. Brayden McManaway and Keegan Jones each shot 56, and Gavin Hancock finished the scoring with a 62. Christian Cox added a 68, while Noah Childers carded a 70.

Hauser junior Justin Compton fired his lowest round to earn medalist honors with a 2-over par 38 to lead the host Jets to the win.

“I came out today and started off really good. I got the first nerves off the tee out of the way,” Compton said. “I hit a good shot, and it really made me think that I could go low today.”

Nick Neafus finished with a 46 for Hauser. Owen Green added a 50, and Clayton Wilson had a 54 to round out the Jets scoring. Matt Sweet and Sam Johnson each shot 59.
