Symphonic council plans meeting, luncheon

The Franklin Symphonic Council will host the annual meeting and spring membership luncheon Saturday at the Napolitan Student Center on the Franklin College campus.

The meeting will start at noon, and the public is invited to attend.

The program will feature performances by winners of the organization’s Young Musicians Scholarship Competition, as well as special vocal selections from the musical, “Show Boat.” The luncheon theme celebrates the council’s sponsorship of the film “Show Boat,” screening April 14 and 15 at the Artcraft Theatre in Franklin.

The Franklin Symphonic Council is a non-profit organization that promotes participation, enjoyment and appreciation of music and the arts for children and adults in Johnson County.

Activities and events sponsored by the council include the Franklin Downtown holiday lighting ceremony; helping Johnson County fifth-graders attend the Indianapolis Symphony’s Discovery Concert; a co-sponsorship for arts learning program in Franklin elementary schools; the annual music scholarship competition; refurbishment and distribution of donated used musical instruments to students in need; and sponsorship of concerts and music-related film showings at the Artcraft Theatre.

Reservations for the luncheon are required by March 31 and may be made by calling Janet Schantz at 317-362-6344. The cost is $15 per person. Annual membership dues are $25 and may be made at the luncheon, but are not required for attendance.
