FRANKLIN
James Weldon Stone, 92, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, at Christina Place in Franklin.
James was born on July 28, 1924, in Morrow, Ohio to Muncie B. and Creca (Graham) Stone.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He married Nellie Grace Rowlett on Feb. 15, 1949. They were married for 68 years.
James was a steelworker for U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana for 38 years, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He was a member of the Franklin American Legion Post 205.
James is survived by his wife, Nellie Grace Stone of Franklin; three children, James W. (Christine) Stone Jr. of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Patricia Ann (Ed) Elking of St. Louis, Missouri and Philip (Ines) Stone of Hialeah, Florida; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Muncie and Creca Stone; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Park in Gary.
