Center Grove drops first two

Center Grove opened its season with losses to Cathedral, 3-2, and defending Class 4A state champion Roncalli, 6-4, in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Softball

Trojans win doubleheader

Center Grove defeated both Terre Haute North, 8-7, and Terre Haute South, 14-4, in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Jordyn Rudd finished with two home runs and six RBIs on the day. Piper Belden was 6 for 9 with a triple and two doubles. Pitchers Abby Herbst and Nicole Abrams picked up victories for the Trojans.

Whiteland sweeps Columbus North

Whiteland routed Columbus North in a double-header on Saturday. The Warriors opened with a 21-4 win, following up with a 13-2 victory afterwards. Whiteland improves to 2-1 on the season.

Franklin College

Baseball salvages split

Franklin College played against Earlham College in a doubleheader on Saturday. Earlham took the first win in a nail-biter, 7-6, followed by a 5-4 Franklin victory.

Frank Podkul led the Grizzlies in the first game with a home run and three RBIs. In the second game, Nick Wright led Franklin with a homer and four RBIs. Aaron Leming was the winning pitcher.

The Grizzlies move to 13-7 (5-2 HCAC).

Softball sweeps Wooster

Franklin College defeated the College of Wooster twice on Saturday. The Grizzlies on the opener, 4-3, in the seventh inning on a walk-off RBI from Monica Collins. They then topped Wooster again in the second game, 7-1.

The Grizzlies (13-7) were led by winning pitchers Olivia Paszek and Bailey Lindamood.
