Dorothy Cole Poynter, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. She was a resident of Greenwood.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 25, 1930, in Jackson, Kentucky, to Samuel and Elizabeth (Barnett) Cole.

On Nov. 13, 1948, she married the love of her life, Charles Poynter. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Dorothy retired from Noble Center Industries after working as a bus driver for over 30 years.

She was a long time active member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church and a member of the Eastern Star, Greenwood chapter.

Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge and loved spending time with her daughters and family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her two daughters, Charlene Lutz (Robert) of Indianapolis and Elizabeth Higginbotham (David) of Greenwood; one son-in-law, Don Carnahan; two sisters, Bertie Myers of Greenwood and Mary Salyers of New Marion; five grandchildren, Christopher Carnahan (Heidi), Brian Lutz, Benjamin Higginbotham (Gina), Allyson Boomsma (Joel) and Bradley Lutz (Tiffany); and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Joyce Carnahan; seven brothers, Pryce, Seldon, Edwin, Everett, Clarence, Raymond and Dorsey.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at noon on Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Janelda Barnett will officiate. Entombment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Greenwood.
