Arvil L. Kirby

INDIANAPOLIS

Arvil L. Kirby, 75, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Indiana University Health West in Avon.

He was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, to Virgil Kirby and Norada (Payne) Kirby.

He married Dorothy M. (Cochran) Kirby on Oct. 10, 1959, in Franklin; she survives.

He retired from Carter Lee Lumber Co. in Indianapolis in 1995 after 15 years of services as a truck driver and yard attendant. He previously had worked for Davidson Lumber in Southport and Burnett Binford in Indianapolis.

He was a member of Raceway Road Baptist Church in Indianapolis.

He enjoyed boating and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. (Cochran) Kirby of Indianapolis; two daughters Sherry D. Thomas (John) of Brownsburg and Susie Denson (Tim) of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Shane Engle, Bobby Denson (Gloria), Derrick Denson, Jordan Thomas and Kieraleigh Thomas; five great-grandchildren, Austin Denson, Lathan Denson, Camden Denson, Malaki Denson and Hannah Denson; two sisters, Barbara French (Bill) of Franklin and Patricia King (Kenny) of Franklin; and one brother, Jimmy Kirby of Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Rev. Richard Johnson will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
