Police search for motorist who fled scene of accident

Police are searching for a motorist who was driving a stolen vehicle when he was involved in an accident and then fled the scene, police said.

The motorist who fled the scene was driving south on U.S. 31 near Amity about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday when a vehicle driven by David Jones, 59, Morgantown, did not yield to the first motorist while crossing U.S. 31 to get to State Road 252, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s office.

The first vehicle hit Jones’ vehicle, knocking the vehicle into a box truck driven by Mark Haydon, 54, Clarksville, according to the report.

The driver of the first vehicle fled on foot. The owner of the first vehicle came to the scene and said that the vehicle was stolen, according to the report.

Jones reported a contusion/bruise to the head. Haydon reported shoulder/upper arm pain. Both were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, the report said.
