Lola Jean Nixon

INDIANAPOLIS

Lola Jean Nixon, 86, of Indianapolis, passed from this life on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

She was born to the late Wayne and Zelma (Hume) Corne on Nov. 28, 1930 in Francisco.

She grew up in Oakland City, where she met her husband, Cecil C. Nixon; they married in 1951. They were married for 50 years before his passing on Jan. 24, 2001.

Jean was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a dedicated homemaker.

In her spare time, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, gardening and bird watching.

She was an avid constitutional conservative.

She will be deeply missed by her loving family, including her daughter, Jane Kevlin of Greenwood; sons, Mark Nixon of Indianapolis, Jeffrey Nixon (Mary) of Fort Wayne and Jon Nixon of Whitestown; brother, Wayne Corne (Joan) of Martinsville; grandchildren, Ian Kevlin, Andrew Nixon, Zachary Nixon, Sarah McKague, Daniel Nixon and Sascha Nixon; and great-grandchildren, McKenna Kevlin and Eli Kevlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, JoAnn Corne, Priscilla Montgomery, Sue Owens, Sandra Corne, Nancy St. John and Judy Jacobs.

There will be a memorial gathering from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. after the gathering. Following the services, her remains will be interred at Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Waverly.
