Another honor for Trojans’ Yeast
Center Grove senior Russ Yeast, who was named Indiana’s Gatorade Player of the Year this past season after leading the Trojans back to the state title game, earned another top honor Sunday when he was named the Class 6A Player of the Year at the Griddy Awards banquet in Indianapolis.
Put on by Indiana Football Digest, the Griddys are billed as the “Oscars of Indiana football.”
Yeast was joined on the Big School (Classes 4A through 6A) All-State team by Center Grove teammates Dan Root and Bailey Bennett. Whiteland’s Ryder Emberton also was part of that group.
Roncalli quarterback Derek O’Connor was honored as the Class 4A Player of the Year. Bruce Scifres, who just resigned his post as the Rebels’ head coach, was named the 4A Coach of the Year.
