Alice Elizabeth Wood

Alice Elizabeth (Riggs) Wood, 91, of Greenwood, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
Alice, known as Betty, was born Oct. 16, 1925, in rural Nineveh Township, to James Alvin  and Ethel (Mullikin) Riggs.
She attended school in Nineveh but graduated from New Salem High School in 1943. It was  during her years in Nineveh that she met the love of her life and her future husband, Floyd Walter Wood. Betty graduated from Indiana University in 1948 with a degree in home  economics and was awarded her master’s degree in 1971.
She began her teaching career in Coesse, and retired from Greenwood Community Schools  as the head of the home economics department in 1986.
Betty and Floyd married in 1950 and had three daughters; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, square dancing and traveling.
Together, Betty and Floyd visited all 50 states and many countries.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Rhodes, Marilyn Wood and Diane Jones (Kenny); grandchildren, Jennifer Muller (Kevin), Allison Dutton (Nathan), Natalie Desser (Tim), Michael Moonan, Catherine Moonan, Daniel Moonan, Kimberly Eckert (Nathan), Hannah Jones, Kenneth Jones Jr. (Amy) and Bradley Jones.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Wood, on Nov. 12, 2016. Also preceding  her in death were her parents and her siblings, Ransom, Dorothy, Mabel, George and Bob.
Betty was a long time member of Psi Iota Xi Service sorority and a member of Greenwood Christian Church since 1958. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood Christian Church.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at Wilson and St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W.  Main St. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood.
