Center Grove picks child care program manager

Starting next school year, Center Grove will partner with an area child care provider to manage its employee child care program.

Honey Grove Educational Center will take over operation of the Bright Beginnings Early Learning Academy starting in August. The academy had grown beyond what Center Grove could effectively manage, and working with Honey Creek Educational Center ensures that the program will continue, Superintendent Richard Arkanoff said.

The center offers care for children age 6 weeks to 4 years old, with a curriculum that revolves around an integrated learning environment that fosters curiosity. Programs are differentiated by age groups, helping with social, cognitive and emotional development, as well as communication and literacy. Center Grove Schools opened the center to provide care for children of employees and students.

Honey Grove Educational Center, which has been offering child care in the White River Township area since 2002, will continue on that focus.

The preschool will continue to be located at Center Grove’s Professional Resource Center, next to the high school on Morgantown Road. Rates for the first year will remain the same as had been charged by the school district, said Paul Gabriel, chief financial officer for Center Grove.

By transferring operation of the preschool to Honey Grove, Center Grove will save about $45,000 each year, Gabriel said.

The Center Grove school board has unanimously approved a four-year contract with Honey Grove Educational Center.
