FRANKLIN
Joseph V. Smith, 83, passed away on Friday morning, March 17, 2017, at his residence in Franklin.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1933, in Franklin to Arnold Smith and Pearl (Sparks) Smith. He married Jean Wisdom on July 26, 2001. She preceded him in passing.
Joe is survived by two daughters by previous marriages, Rachel Roe of Martinsville and Elizabeth Smith of Franklin. Also surviving are grandchildren, Thomas, Eddie and Darlene; several great-grandchildren and three sisters, Alice (Preston) Lucas, Hazel Welch and Ruth Hughey and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by one brother, Louis Smith and two sisters, Shirley Smith and Beulah Mae Smith, brother in-laws, Thomas Robert Welch, Wilfrid O. Hughey and William B. Cox.
He was employed by Arvin Industries in Franklin for 42 years, retiring in 1998.
Joe was a member of East Rawles Church of God in Indianapolis. He enjoyed bowling and fishing. Joe loved to spend time at the state parks enjoying nature.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
