Gerda Renate Harter

FRANKLIN

Gerda Renate Harter, 91, of Franklin, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Indiana Masonic Home.

She was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Kaiserslautern, Germany to Joseph K. Kessler and Martha (Wall) Kessler Folz.

She married Roy L. Harter, he preceded her in death in March of 1989.

She had been a nurse’s technician for Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin for 23 years. She previously had been a kindergartner teacher in Germany and various U.S. Army Bases. She was a member of Shiloh Community Church in Franklin, Franklin American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary.

She had made more than 1,000 hats and donated to the homeless.

Survivors include her children, Linde Paris (Allen) of Atlanta, Georgia, Ruth Phillips (Chris) of Franklin, Jackie Luttrell (James) of Corvallis, Oregon and Roy Harter (Sandy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Inge Horton.

A private family service will be conducted on Tuesday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin with burial to follow in First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin.
