Bontrager earns Cato scholarship

Center Grove senior Logan Bontrager will be one of 13 Indiana student-athletes presented with the C. Eugene Cato Memorial Scholarship Award. Each of the seniors chosen will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

Bontrager and the other winners were selected for their record of excellence in academics, community involvement, character, sportsmanship and citizenship. The winners will be honored at an April 20 banquet, which will be held at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Franklin College

Baseball takes two of three

Following a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon, Franklin College baseball finished off a three-game home series against Capital with a 9-5 win Sunday.

Sam Claycamp had a big day offensively for the Grizzlies (8-5), going 3 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Softball splits four

Franklin’s softball team played a four-game series with Capital College over the weekend, finishing off with a 4-3 win to salvage a split of two games Sunday.

The Grizzlies also split a Saturday twinbill at DePauw, picking up a 6-4 victory before dropping the second game, 4-3.

Track & field opens outdoor season

Franklin College opened its men’s and women’s outdoor seasons Saturday afternoon at Rose-Hulman.

Clayton Brumfield and Reed Sauter were the top finishers for the Grizzly men, taking first and second, respectively, in the 800-meter dash. For the women, Bret Roberts and Cami Collins finished 1-2 in the pole vault.
