The man, his fiance and another friend were playing on the tracks as a train was approaching, O’Sullivan said. Huffaker had not moved far enough away from the tracks and the metal railing on the train’s stairs clipped him and flung him to the ground, O’Sullivan said.

Witnesses said that the man had been drinking alcohol, but police don’t know to what extent or whether it was a factor in the accident, O’Sullivan said.

Police are investigating but do not suspect foul play.

The weather overnight prevented a medical helicopter from taking the man to Indianapolis, so medics took him in an ambulance, O’Sullivan said.

Employees on the train saw the man get hit, and stopped to wait on police to arrive.
