William F. Walker

GREENWOOD

William F. Walker, 80, lifelong Greenwood, resident passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

He was born June 16, 1936, to Forest William Walker and Mildred “Bob” (Calvert) Walker on the Walker Family Farm in White River Township. He was a 1954 graduate of Center Grove High School and a 1958 graduate of Purdue University where he received his bachelors of science degree in poultry. He returned to the family farm where he operated Walker’s Hatchery in Greenwood from 1958 until his death. He was a former member of the Board of School Trustees for the Center Grove Community School Corporation, was active in the formation of Gateway Services of Johnson County, former member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Merit Board, former Johnson County Commissioner, former board member of Greenwood Village South, previously active in the Center Grove Bantam Football League, and was currently a member of the Johnson County Park Board. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing, Greenwood.

He married Mary Lue (Doty) Mathena Walker on July 5, 2003, in Greenwood, she survives; also surviving is his son, William Brian Walker and daughter-in-law Michelle (Bloomquist) Walker of Greenwood; granddaughter, Kaitlynn Lea Walker of Greenwood; grandson, William Garrett Walker of Greenwood; stepsons, Chuck Mathena of Whiteland and Alan Mathena (Lisa) of Whiteland; four step-grandchildren, Jessica Brown (Seth) of Franklin, Christopher Mathena of Whiteland, Alison Mathena of Whiteland and Kyle Mathena of Whiteland and two step-great-grandchildren Tinley Brown and Tripp Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Lea Ann Walker on June 2, 1975.

The Rev. Ben Greenbaum will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in White River Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Gateway Services, 3500 N.
