Woman accused of battering child

A Greenwood woman has been arrested on a battery charge after a child she was caring was subject to repeated spankings one night, according to a police report.

Robin N. Wilson, 29, of 124 Marcy Lane, was arrested on a charge of battery on a person less than 14 years old. Greenwood police began investigating on Friday after being notified by the Johnson County Department of Child Services, according to a police report.

An 8-year-old child told police that Wilson had picked her up by pinching her under her arms, threw her onto her bed and she was spanked at least 40 times on March 4, the police report said.

The next day, she had been hit with a dustpan, she told police. Wilson was caring for her at the time, the report said.

A department of child services caseworker took photos of what police described as substantial bruising on the child. The bruising lasted for several days, the report said.

Wilson told police that she had continually spanked the child because it had taken 30 minutes and several attempts to get the child to go to bed, the report said. She said she was sorry for what she had done, the report said.

She has been released from the Johnson County jail on bond.
