Winter guards earn state berth

Local winter guards earned a berth to the state competition this weekend.

Two guards from Greenwood Community High School earned a spot at the Indiana High School Color Guard Association state finals this Saturday.

The A guard performs at 11:28 a.m. and the Open guard performs at 4 p.m. at Center Grove High School, 2717 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood.

Whiteland Community High School’s varsity color guard earned a berth to state for the first time in school history. They will vie for a state title at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Center Grove.

Center Grove’s World Class guard also earned a berth to state finals with Center Grove going on at 6:10 p.m.

Franklin’s winter guard competed in the Indiana High School Color Guard Association preliminaries. They did not advance to state finals.

Greenwood’s winter percussion finished fourth and qualified for the WGI Indianapolis finals. This weekend, the winter percussion will be performing at Indiana Percussion Association state preliminaries.

Whiteland’s Indoor Percussion Ensemble placed fifth in Open Concert Class at the Indiana Percussion Association contest at Ben Davis High School.

The indoor percussion group at Center Grove High School competed at both preliminaries and finals at the WGI Indianapolis Regional this past weekend at Franklin Central High School. They will compete in preliminaries and state finals this weekend.
