Whiteland athletes picks Indiana Tech
Djimmon Ogega and Kerrigan Miller, who have starred for Whiteland’s boys and girls track teams, respectively, each signed a letter of intent to run at Indiana Tech beginning next year.
Both Ogega and Miller were state qualifiers last spring. Ogega took sixth in the boys 400-meter dash in 49.35 seconds and helped the Warriors finish 12th in the 4×400 relay. Miller placed 16th in the girls long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 1.25 inches.
Softball team splits another pair of games
On the second day of the Citrus Games in Kissimmee, Florida, the Franklin College softball team rebounded from a 1-0, 11-inning loss to St. John Fisher by routing St. Joseph’s (Maine) 10-2.
The defeat in the opener spoiled a strong pitching effort by Olivia Paszek, who struck out nine and allowed just six hits.
Monica Collins went 3 for 3 with a pair of runs scored in the second game for the Grizzlies (6-2), who totaled nine hits. Kayla Selzer was the winning pitcher.
