GREENWOOD
Cleo Gilbert was born May 26, 1934, in Saul, Kentucky, to Lane and Florence Barger. At age 82, she went to glory in the early hours of Feb. 21, 2017.
Cleo graduated from Correctionville High School in 1952, and a year later joined the WAC’S. During the Korean War, she served in Germany until May 1955 when she was honorably discharged.
In the next several years, she finished her nurse’s training, met and married her beloved Eli Gilbert, and the two came to Greenwood to live. While Eli served on the Greenwood police force, Cleo was hired as a nurse in a doctor’s office and became the office manager. Both were very active in the Johnson County Republican Party.
Cleo loved the Lord and was a faithful member at Greenwood Baptist Church. She loved life and enjoyed every bit of it. She and Eli loved going to Florida after retirement and were well known by their neighbors in Greenwood.
Cleo was the last of her siblings by the time of her death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eli. She is survived by nieces and nephews in Kentucky and in Ohio.
Cleo chose not to have a service.
