Local artist’s paintings, sketches displayed in exhibit

The Southside Art League presents the work of a local painter this month who began his art career after retiring as a human resources manager.

The month-long exhibit during March will feature about 30 paintings and sketches by professional artist John Manicke. Most of the art works are for sale.

Manicke has had a lifelong interest in art, however, he did not take formal classes in art until he was pursuing his master’s degree in psychology at the University of Wisconsin.

During his career as a human resource manager with various companies, he continued his studies, while also entering competitions and art fairs. In 1990, he retired and began taking classes at the Indianapolis Art Center.
