Boys basketball

Rebels eliminated in title game

Roncalli’s season came to an end Saturday night with a 58-40 loss to Ben Davis in the championship game of the Class 4A Decatur Central Sectional.

Kellen Schreiber finished with 17 points to lead the Rebels (17-9). Only three boys basketball teams in school history won more games than this year’s squad.

Softball remains unbeaten

The Franklin softball team continued its perfect start with a Saturday sweep of Kalamazoo in a home doubleheader.

The Grizzlies (4-0) won the opening game, 5-1, behind winning pitcher Olivia Paszek. Kayla Selzer threw a shutout in the second game, a 7-0 victory.

Baseball sweeps Albion

Holding off late rallies in each game, Franklin swept a Saturday twinbill against Albion.

Alex Mis drove in four runs to lead the way to a 10-9 victory in the first game. Sam Claycamp’s solo homer in the seventh inning held up as the decisive run for Franklin (4-3).

In the nightcap, Nick Wright and Drew Naumovich combined for five hits and five runs batted in as the Grizzlies prevailed, 7-5.

Track wraps indoor season

Competing in the final indoor meet of the season, the Last Chance Invitational at Ohio Northern University, Franklin freshman Clayton Brumfield won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:07.05.

Sophomore Heath Deugan finished third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:46.24, and junior Nathan Adams placed ninth in the men’s weight throw with an effort of 14.16 meters, just shy of the school record.
