Archie L. Russell

INDIANAPOLIS

Archie L. Russell, 86, of Indianapolis, formerly of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Indianapolis.

He was born May 29, 1930, in Warrant County to Charles and Esther (Throckmorton) Russell. He married Norma F. (Blackwell) Russell; she preceded him in death on May 28, 1989. He later married Joanna (Ross) Johns Russell on December 19, 1989, at Samaria Christian Church in Trafalgar, she survives.

He was a 1950 graduate of Center Grove High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars and served 20 years retiring in 1970 as Master Sergeant.

He was a member of the One Thousand Hour Club C-130A Hercules where he completed one thousand hours of flight time in the 1375th Mapping and Charting SQ Turner Air Force Base, Georgia and later became a member of the Two Thousand Hour Club C-130A Club. He was the former owner of the Bargersville Restaurant, SAPS Restaurant in Greenwood, and the House of Franklin, retiring in 1995.

He enjoyed fishing, and fixing and tinkering with different projects that came along his way.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna (Ross) Johns Russell of Indianapolis; children, Archie Dean Russell (Beth) of Franklin, Cindy Proffitt (Lloyd) of Venice, Florida, Kyle Bryan Russell of Port Richey, Florida, Deborah Trimmer (Vurl) of Greenwood, Jimmie Johns of Indianapolis, Kimberly Jackson (Marty) of Ocklawaha, Florida, and Jennifer L. Keefer (Zane) of Mooresville; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma F. (Blackwell) Russell; three brothers, Earl Russell, Marvin Russell, Raymond Russell, and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from noon to service time Monday at the mortuary. Burial with full military honors will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
