Gary L. Sichting

FRANKLIN

Gary L. Sichting, 65, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Feb. 28, 2017, at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin and former resident of Morgantown.

Gary was born Feb. 23, 1952, in Martinsville, to the late James Elmer and Helen G. (Burns) Sichting. He was a 1970 graduate of Indian Creek High School. Gary married Janet E. (Ratliff) Sichting on Oct. 14, 1972, in Morgantown. She survives after 44 loving years of marriage.

Gary worked as a line inspector at General Motors in Indianapolis for more than 30 years, retiring in 2006. After retirement, Gary spent several years volunteering at Indian Creek Elementary School. In his lifetime, he attended both Morgantown United Methodist Church and Morgantown Baptist Church. Gary was a member of the UAW Local 933, served as a Morgantown fireman EMT for several years, and served as a Past President for the Morgantown Little League and the Indian Creek Band Boosters. Gary also coached Little League for nine years. He enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music and used to sing in a Gospel quartet in the 1980’s. Gary enjoyed family get-togethers, mushroom hunting and watching Indiana University basketball and Indian Creek sports. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will be missed by his wife, Janet; children, Chad (Melissa) Sichting of Franklin and Karen (Jason) Haugh of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Sophia, Harper and Emma; siblings, Don (Marty) Sichting, Joe Sichting, Larry (Ruth) Sichting, Sandra (Aubrey) Zook, Myla (Mike) Magennis and Dan (Lucinda) Sichting; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Bradley Craig Sichting; and siblings, Barbara Foster, William “Bill” Sichting and John Paul Sichting.

The Rev. Ben Swopes will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morgantown Baptist Church, 109 W. Elm St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
