Raymond P. Shoemaker Sr.

INDIANAPOLIS

Raymond P. Shoemaker Sr., 84, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017.

He was born Oct. 18, 1932, in New London, North Carolina, to Luther and Minnie (Horton) Shoemaker.

Ray graduated from Howe High School in 1951. He proudly served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and was a member of the UAW Local No. 23. Ray retired from General Motors in 1994 after many years of faithful service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Letha Watts Shoemaker and son, James Shoemaker.

Ray is survived by his son, Raymond (Jennifer) Shoemaker Jr., daughter, Andrea (Frank) Bianchi; grandchildren, Brittany (Garrett) Brink, Morgan (Collin) Rush, Grace Bianchi and Dominic Bianchi; brothers, Albert Shoemaker, Robert (Syble) Shoemaker and Glenn (Pat) Shoemaker, sister, Verona (Richard) Reed; stepchildren, William (Laura) Watts, Donnie (Bonnie) Watts, Charles Watts, Marvin Watts and Cindy (Jim) Dine; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Francis Hospice.
