Police: Man arrested on domestic battery charge

A Bargersville man was arrested after police said he hit his girlfriend and drove off with their 1-year-old son.

Cody Wheeler, 26, was arrested on charges of domestic battery with children present and criminal confinement.

A witness called police after seeing Wheeler strike his girlfriend and leave with a child from the parking lot of a Greenwood business around 6 p.m. Tuesday, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

Wheeler’s girlfriend told police she locked the doors of her vehicle because she was afraid, but Wheeler used his own key to unlock the door. She tried to put the vehicle in reverse and leave, but Wheeler pushed her and put the car in park. He then took her phone and took the car seat with their 1-year-old. She told police Wheeler also tried to force her into the vehicle, but a witness intervened, the report said.

Police stopped Wheeler’s vehicle with the child inside nearby, and he was arrested, the report said.

Wheeler, 3230 Hartshire North Drive, Apt. 1, taken to the Johnson County jail and released on $2,400 bond.
