GREENWOOD
Joseph James Nelson of Greenwood, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017.
He was born July 4, 1944, to Donald Leon Nelson and Frances (Missicano) Hicks.
Joseph’s father was a casualty of World War II, and he was always proud of his father’s service. Along with his mother Frances, Joseph was raised by his stepfather, Don Hicks.
He married Donna Sue (Turner) Nelson on April 30, 1971.
Joseph was a supervisor at Indianapolis Power and Light for 31 years before retiring. Also, he owned his own lawn care business.
Joseph was a member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Nelson; children, Joni Lynn Nelson, Tamara (Jon) Vandable, Travis James (Becky) Nelson and Tracy Joe (Andrea) Nelson; grandchildren, Abilgail Vandable, Emily Vandable, Zachary Vandable, Dylan Vandable, River Vandable, Cash Nelson, Kolt Nelson, Braeden Nelson, Josh Nelson, Sydnee Allen and Harlee Allen; and siblings Donna Lynn Voght and Tom Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Nelson; and stepbrother, John Hicks.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson St Pierre Funeral Service, Greenwood Chapel and from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Friday at Greenwood Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Main St., Greenwood. Burial will follow at Green Lawn cemetery.
