Dennis T. Streit

FRANKLIN

Dennis T. Streit, 72, passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin for 28 years.

Dennis was born on April 8, 1944, in Ashland, Ohio, to Floyd J. and Frances K. (Hastings) Streit.

On June 10, 1973, Dennis married Kathleen Ann (Fetz) who lovingly survives along with their children, Jason (Joni) Streit and Jennifer (Jonathan) Mulzer. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Colston Streit, Carlie Streit, Owen Mulzer and Oliver Mulzer, all from Indianapolis; and one sister, Joyce (Nevin) Bowers of Ashland Ohio.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; and an infant son, John Essex Streit.

He was a 1962 graduate of Polk High School in Polk, Ohio, where he played basketball, was a member of the band and active in drama productions. In 1965 Dennis studied at Oberlin School of Commerce in Oberlin, Ohio, where he received an associate degree in business and accounting.

Most of Dennis’ career paths were in retail. He began as a management trainee in Lima, Ohio, with the JC Penney Co. Later he was transferred to Shelbyville as a department manager, where he worked for many years.

Other work experiences included selling stock, selling insurance with Allstate, managing Payless Shoe Stores, and finally working as an associate at the Walmart in Franklin. He retired from Walmart in 2011.

Dennis’ interests and hobbies include music of all kinds. He sang with the Chordlighters Barbershop Chorus and many church choirs. Going to concerts, gardening, sending cards to friends and family, photography, travel and decorating for holidays were also some of his passions.

He enjoyed volunteering through Grace United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. He worked with the Study Buddy program at Webb Elementary School; served meals at the Christmas dinner at GUMC; volunteered with Gleaners and the Interchurch Food Pantry, among other programs.

Dennis was a member of the Franklin Active Adult Center where he participated in exercise and travel opportunities. But, what Dennis enjoyed the most was just being with his family.
