GREENWOOD
Mary Ellen Colson, 87, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1929, in Greenwood, to Jasper and Opal Dine Merriman.
She married Marshall Beaman, who preceded her in death in 1969. In 1975, she married Charles Colson, who preceded her in death in 1992.
Mary worked for the water department as well as in the office for L.S. Ayres and Woolworths, and she retired from Indiana American Water Co. in 1991.
She loved to travel to new places, play cards with her friends and shop. But most of all, she loved just spending time with her family and close friends.
Survivors include her son, Dennis E. Beaman (Teresa) of Greenwood; granddaughter, Sarah Lord (Richard); grandson, Randall Morris (Cathy); five great-granddaughters; a sister, Florence McClain; and several nieces.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brothers, Carl, Don and Melvin Merriman; and sister, Esther Merriman.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Wilson and St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood. A memorial gathering will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A private inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
