Child found wandering outside in Greenwood

Greenwood police were called after a toddler was found wandering Thursday afternoon on a sidewalk along County Line Road.

The toddler was found at 10:30 a.m. Thursday wearing a short dress and blanket without shoes or socks. The two women who found her contacted police and watched the child while waiting for officers to arrive, a Greenwood Police Department report said. One of the women changed the toddler’s wet diaper, the report said.

The parents were found at a nearby apartment along Brittany Lane that had its door left open. Police and the apartment manager found the parents asleep inside, the report said.

The parents told police they both worked night shifts and had locked the door and set up a metal plant stand and two five-pound weights to block the door, the report said.

No one was arrested. Police contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services.
