Marian players honored

Marian University women’s basketball player Candace Danz has been named to the Crossroads League All-Freshman Team. Danz, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward who was the Daily Journal’s Player of the Year in 2016 after leading Indian Creek to the Class 3A regional, averages 8.1 points for the Knights.

Former Roncalli player Kellie Kirkhoff, a 5-5 junior guard averaging 13.5 points a game for Marian (27-3), was named First Team All-Crossroads League.

Swimmers reach NCAAs

Franklin College senior swimmers Artur Schneider and Regina Solik have qualified for the NCAA Division III championships, which will be March 15 to 18 in Shenandoah, Texas.

Schneider, making his third NCAA appearance, will compete in the 200-yard individual medley, the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle. Solik, the first female swimmer in Grizzlies history to advance to the national meet, will swim in the 50 and 100 free.
