Thelma Eileen (Iyama) Matsushima

GREENWOOD

Loving mother and grandmother, Thelma Eileen (Iyama) Matsushima, 89, of Greenwood, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at the Hearth at Stones Crossing in Greenwood surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Fort Lupton, Colorado to Takichi and Hide (Shibata) Iyama.

She married Lester Toyoki Matsushima on Dec. 14, 1954; he preceded her in death on July 9, 2010.

She grew up on various farms in the Fort Lupton, Colorado area and was a 1945 graduate of Fort Lupton High School.

She had worked at Neisner Brothers in Denver, Colorado.

She was a member of Bluff Creek Christian Church in Greenwood.

Family was the most important thing to her, and she was the ultimate caregiver. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Patti J. Treadway and son-in-law Neal Treadway of Greenwood; granddaughter, Allison Holdorf and grandson-in-law, Lance Holdorf of Corinth, Texas; nephew, Dennis Nakamura (Charlene); and two great-nieces, Bobbi Peerless and Trish Nakamura — all of Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Frank Iyama, sisters Mary Iyama, Rose Nakamura, Ruth Shimooka, Lilly Urano and Helen Iyama; a nephew, Richard Iyama, and a niece, Elaine Smith.

The Rev. Stan Icenogle will conduct a service at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the mortuary.
