Help fight cancer with dance fundraiser

Fathers and daughters can dance the night away and raise money for a Relay for Life team.

The Cancer Stinks Relay for Life team is having a dance fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. March 4 at Indian Creek High School, 803 Indian Creek Meadows Drive, Trafalgar.

Team member Carey Frazier tells you what you need to know about the event.

Who can participate?

We encourage any females. Even though our event is called “Daddy Daughter Dance,” daughters of all ages come out to celebrate the evening with their date for the evening. We will not turn anyone away. Since we are bringing awareness to cancer, a lot of our attendees are celebrating a loved one who is fighting cancer or is attending in honor of a loved one.

How much is admission?

Pre-sale tickets at First Merchant Bank in Trafalgar are $20 a couple and $5 per extra daughter. Tickets at the door will be $25 a couple and $5 per extra daughter.

How did you get the idea for the dance?

Other communities have Daddy Daughter Dances and there was nothing like this in the Trafalgar area. We (Cancer Stinks team) felt like this would be a good way to bring Relay events into Trafalgar and an opportunity for fathers to have a special evening with their daughters. Time is such a precious commodity in this day and age, we wanted to give parents a chance to take some of it back.

How many people can register?

We have 200 tickets available for sale.

Where do the proceeds go?

All proceeds from sponsorships, silent auction, T-shirt sales, Tervis Tumbler Sales and tickets sales will go to the American Cancer Society. Cancer Stinks participates in the Franklin Relay for Life that takes place June 24 at the Johnson County fairgrounds.
