Dr. Saverio Caputi, Jr.

Dr. Saverio Caputi Jr., 89, of Greenwood, passed away Feb. 3, 2017.

Born on July 23, 1927 in Newport, Rhode Island, he was the son of Saverio Caputi and Madeline Esposito.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pasqualina Farwell and Philomena Koulbanis, and by his brother Dr. Anthony Caputi.

He is survived by his sister, Dr. Marie Caputi.

He leaves three children, Jennifer, Stephen and James; one granddaughter, Katherine; six stepchildren, Greg, Paula, Charlene, Eric, Everett and Miles and his beloved lifetime partner Theresa.

Sunshine, a compassionate and loving health care professional and step-granddaughter, had a special place in his heart. He also leaves several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He received his BA from Brown University in 1951 and his MD from Boston University in 1955. From 1957-1959, he served as a lieutenant in the Medical Corps stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Newport. From 1959-62, he did his radiology residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Medical School with affiliation at Children’s Hospital, Pondville Cancer Hospital, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1964 he moved to Indianapolis. Through the years he was chief radiologist at Winona Hospital, Rush Memorial Hospital and Kendrick Memorial Hospital. He was director of radiology at Metro Health and finally went into private practice in 1977. He retired in 1995 after 50 years in the practice of radiology.

A compassionate, loving, and gentle soul, he was loved by all who knew him — both family, friends, and colleagues.

A celebration of life gathering will be conducted at a later date.
