Benjamin Hill Fendley

Benjamin Hill Fendley, 95, of the Franklin United Methodist Community passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017.

He was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Indianapolis to Benjamin Franklin Fendley and Nellie Flora (Hill) Fendley. He married Anna B. (Borden) Fendley on Aug. 16, 1947, at Edwin Ray United Methodist Church in the Fountain Square area of Indianapolis. She preceded him in death April 27, 2013.

He had lived in Indianapolis, Beech Grove, Sweetwater Lake in Nineveh, and in Franklin. He was a former member of Edwin Ray United Methodist Church, and along with his late wife taught Sunday school classes at Beech Grove United Methodist Church and the Church of the Lakes in Nineveh.

He heroically served in the United States Navy during World War II on a minesweeper in the Pacific Theater. Ben was a Boy Scout leader. He was a state fair champion scroll saw artist. He loved photography and digital scrapbooking. He contributed both of these talents to both Walmart and the Franklin United Methodist Community. He never met a stranger. He retired as an outside sales associate for Joint and Clutch in Indianapolis and Walmart.

Survivors include two sons, Craig Fendley (Margie) of Summerville, South Carolina and Clint Fendley (Jan) of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Josh Fendley (Anna) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gabe Fendley of Istanbul, Turkey, Matt Fendley of Charleston, South Carolina, and Joy Fendley of Seattle, Washington, and great grandchildren Jameson, Grant and Grace Fendley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St., with a celebration of Ben’s life from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the chapel.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin, IN 46131.
